Elliott Battles to Claim 3rd in Final Points Standings

September 22nd was the final regular season point night for the late models at Flamboro Speedway and three drivers had a mathematical chance at the 2007 title.

David Elliott needed point leader Jason Shaw to have mechanical trouble and miss the feature to grab first. The battle for second in the standings was much closer, with Scott Lyons only 10 points ahead of David.

Shaw finished second in the first heat race to eliminate David’s hopes of repeating as champion. In the third heat race, David finished one spot behind Scott Lyons and fell one point more to second in points.

With Flamboro’s inversion for the feature race being based on points standings, David started immediately ahead of Lyons and Shaw. The three drivers maintained their positions relative to each other as the race drew on and it became obvious that few points would be gained in the feature. But that didn’t mean they wouldn’t be racing hard.

All three cars had contact with each other during the feature, but it was a case of no harm, no foul. David finished in 4th, followed by Lyons in 5th and Shaw in 6th.

Shaw captured the 2008 late model title, Lyons held on for second and David claimed third in the final standings.

The extent of the contact during the feature became apparent after the race when a member of Lyons pit crew graciously returned a piece of the #37’s right rear quarter panel which had been lodged into the #52’s front end.

The entire David Elliott Racing Team would like to express our appreciation to all the sponsors who made it possible for the team to compete this year. We would also like to thank all the fans who cheered David on from the stands and came by to say hello in the pits.

We are looking to wrap up the 2007 on a high note at this weekend’s Oktoberfest Classic Weekend at Flamboro Speedway. The grandstands open at noon on Saturday and qualifying races begin at 3 p.m. The grandstand again opens at noon on Sunday and feature racing begins at 3 p.m.

See you there!

Pennzoil and David Elliott Join Forces for 2008

When the green flag drops on the 2008 racing season, David Elliott will be piloting the #37 Pennzoil Chevrolet at tracks across Southern Ontario.

“We are very proud to have Pennzoil as a part of the Elliott Racing Team,” said David Elliott, Champion of the 2006 Weekend Warrior Series and 2006 Flamboro Speedway Late Model Division.

“Pennzoil has a long history of being associated with championship-calibre teams in all forms of racing,” said Mark Reed, Canadian Marketing Manager of Pennzoil. “By sponsoring the Elliott Racing Team, we are continuing that tradition and look forward to capturing more wins and championships with David.”

The team is still finalizing its schedule for the 2008 season, but David plans to run at a number of tracks which he was not able to visit during the 2007 season.

“After winning the 2006 WWS title, we decided to stick closer to home in 2007 and focused on Flamboro Speedway,” said Elliott. “Next season I want to travel a bit more and plan to run the Pennzoil Chevrolet at more tracks, including Sauble Speedway, Kawartha, Delaware and at Flamboro.”

In addition to the new sponsor, David will also have a new team mate in 2008 as his father, Gary, and his #36 Quaker State team will join forces with the #37 team.

“I have been fortunate to have a 35-year relationship with Quaker State,” said Gary. “It is very exciting that I will be teaming up with my son for 2008, but it is even more exciting that we will both be sponsored by the Pennzoil-Quaker State Company.”

With a new sponsor and a new two-car team, fans across Southern Ontario will be sure to see the Elliott Racing Team contending for wins at their local tracks.

Elliott Finishes 3rd, Closes in on Point Leader

The cool weather last weekend meant fast times at Flamboro Speedway.

The #37 Lucas Oil Chevrolet rolled of the trailer and was quick from the onset on September 15th. The David Elliott Racing Team recorded a 2nd and 6th in the qualifying heat races. But David wasn’t worried about the qualifying races, he was hungry for a feature win.

The #37 started in the 6th spot, but when the Jeff Stewart’s car broke and slid up the track on the first lap, David had to slow to avoid the #56 and was passed by a couple cars. Just one lap later the #07 slowed on the front straight and was rear-end the #82, ending the evening for the point leader Jason Shaw.

David found himself back in 6th on the restart and moved up to 5th after just a couple of green-flag laps. As leader Paul Howse pulled away, the #95 of Anthony Simone, the #36 of Gary Elliott and the #52 of Scott Lyons battled for second place, with David right behind them, waiting for an opening.

That opening came when the #36 and #95 got together causing Simone to slide up the track coming off turn 2. Lyons had to slow and David ducked beneath both cars to move into 3rd place behind his father.

The Elliotts weren’t quick enough to reel in the #8 of Howse and David settled for a 3rd place finish.

With Shaw’s misfortune, David moved to within 23 points of the points leader and stayed 9 points behind Lyons in the battle for 2nd. With one night of points racing left David still has an outside shot at another title and you know he will be doing everything possible to repeat as track Late Model champion.

Be sure to join us at the track this Saturday to see who will claim the title.

Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 6:30 p.m.
