Elliott Kicks Off 2007 With Top-5
Finish
The 2006 season was highlighted by two
championships for David Elliott Racing. But
that was last year and when the green flag
fell at Flamboro Speedway on May 5th,
last year’s titles meant nothing…this was a
new season.
Although the team hadn’t touched the set-up
on the car at all since the end of last
year, David was happy with the car during
the practice sessions. During the first
heat, David settled into 3rd
behind Scott Lyons and Jeff Stewart and rode
there until the checkered flag. The third
place finish meant he would start 7th
for the 35-lap feature.
With memories of a lap-one crash during last
year’s season opener, David promised a
cautious race. That promise was almost
broken when several cars got together as
they took the green flag for the feature.
Fortunately for the driver of the #37
Chevrolet, the mayhem started one row behind
him.
Following a complete
restart, David fell to 8th, but
quickly re-passed his father, Gary and began
picking off cars slowly. While running 5th
under a late-race caution, David noticed
that 4th place Jeff Stewart’s
left rear tire was going flat. Ducking low
on the restart, David captured the 4th
position, but did not get a chance to move
up any more positions before the race ended.
David was more than happy with the 4th
place finish and, aside from one tire mark
on the driver side of the car, has very
little work that has to be done before the
team’s next race on May 19th.
