Awesome night for Elliott Racing Team
Picture taken by Carol Snowden Saturday May 24th will be a night to remember for Elliott Racing Team. Starting early in the night, Early in warm ups David and Gary were turning laps in the 15.4's, which is the quickest they have run all year. The line up for the Heat races is determined by a draw out of a hat, both ended up with great numbers, and they started pole in their respective heats. David won the first heat of the night, in a non stop race and the closest competitor was #44 of Steve Laking nearly 10-12 car lengths behind. Gary then won the second heat, although it wasn't nearly as easy he was followed very closely by #82 of Jake Shaw, #8 of Paul Howse and the #56 of Jeff Stewart. It was a 4 car race right up till the end. There was no other qualifying races , so we went straight to the Feature. David and Gary started on the front row because of their bad luck earlier in the season and having a low points average. David took the green and got out to an early lead. Jeff Stewart followed, and Gary dropped into the third position. Going into the 5th lap David's car started to push a little which caused him to slow down in the middle of the turns. Jeff got a great run off turn 4 and got under David. Going into turn 1, they ran side by side all the way down the back shute. Entering turn 3 David and Jeff both drove in hard and there was contact made. Jeff's car spun sideways giving David a huge lead, and moving Gary into 2nd. They ran like this until lap 23, there were a few cautions between lap 12 and 23. Right before lap 23 David's car got real tight, and this opened the opportunity for Gary to make a move. There was a big pile up coming out of turn 2, with Steve Laking and #86 of Kenny Forth. They threw the red flag out to try and get the cars separated. This gave David's car the time it needed to cool the tires, and brakes down. When the green came back out David went on to Take the checkered followed by Gary then #27 of Mark Burbridge rounded out the top 3. This makes History for Elliott Racing Team, we took all the top spots in the Late Models races. It was PERFECT. Jeannie and David would like to thank the Crew for the great job they did, Ed, Marty, Dave C, Mike, and Dave L, Eileen, and Becca Awesome Work. --------------------------------------------------------------- Gehrig Halliday, David's nephew started racing go Karts this year you can keep updated on his stats and how he does by visiting the David Elliott Links Page.
