New Starting System Challenges Elliott

The David Elliott Racing Team unloaded their car on Saturday, May 19th, but, based on the way Flamboro sets the feature field this year, David realized that he would have his work cut out for him to record another top-5 finish.

The car felt good in warm-up and the #37 started on the pole position for his heat. David quickly opened up a three-car-length lead over Todd Campbell #07 and maintained the advantage until the late laps when the car developed a push. Campbell closed up to David’s bumper, but David held him off for his first checkered flag of the season.

The team made a few adjustments to remedy the push and lined the car up for the feature race. David’s strong finish in the season-opened meant he started back in the 12th position.

At the drop of the green, the inside lane took off. Unfortunately, David was in the outside lane. David’s Chevy slipped even deeper into the field before he was able to get into the fast line and begin moving forward. David’s progress has slowed when he came upon the #27 of Mark Burbridge. Although his car was slower than David’s, Burbridge blocked every attempt to pass, resulting in damage to the right front of the #37.

David was stuck between Burbridge and the #72 of Rob McDonell when the 3rd and 4th place cars of Jeff Stewart and Steve Laking got together between turns one and two. David did some fancy driving and slid the car safely past the wreck. McDonell wasn’t as fortunate and spun to avoid the stopped cars.

Without the pressure from behind, David was able to focus on passing cars when the green flag came back out and managed to move up to 8th by the time the checkered flag fell.

Although disappointed with last week’s the 8th place finish, David is eager to get back to the track this Saturday and trying to capture his first feature win of the year.

The Flamboro grandstand opens this Saturday at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 6:30 p.m. Hope to see you there!
