Another Top-5 Propels David Elliott to 3rd in
Points
The David Elliott Racing Team spent
last Saturday morning and early afternoon signing
autographs at Thank Cod Fish & Chips in Burlington.
After the guys filled up on a free meal from the
sponsor, they headed to the track.
David ran only one set of hot laps, and then parked the
car saying he was happy with the way it was handling.
The #37 started mid-pack in both of qualifying heat
races, but David was able to make a few passes and
pulled off respectable 2nd and 4th
place finishes.
During the intermission, David participated in the
on-track autograph session and got to meet with many of
the fans.
In
the evening’s feature, David rolled off from the 9th
starting spot. Unlike last weekend, the field ran clean
and there wasn’t a huge pile-up in the opening laps.
David began moving through traffic with the #82 of Jason
Shaw in tow. The two drivers battled hard for several
laps before Shaw was able to use a slower car as a pick
and got by the #37.
A
crash in turn 1 brought out a caution and David lined up
for the restart in 6th place behind Shaw and
the #10 of Shane Gowan. Shaw jumped past the #10 as soon
as the green flag flew, but Gowan raced David much
harder.
With just a couple laps to go, David got a run on the
#10 down the backstretch. Gowan squeezed the #37 low and
the two cars made contact. David completed the pass to
move into 5th, but had significant body damage on the
right rear from the encounter.
“In many series, consistent top-5 finishes win
championships. But top-5s may not be enough to catch
Shaw this year if he keeps running as strong as he is
right now.” said David. “We’ve climbed up to 3rd
now so we’ll just keep running as hard as we can and
we’ll see how the points shake out at the end of the
year.”
The David Elliott Racing Team returns to Flamboro this
weekend for the second Grisdale Triple Crown race. The
#37 wrecked in its heat race in the first Grisdale race,
forcing David to put on a show for the fans in the
50-lap feature, passing 21 cars en-route to a 5th
place finish. The team is looking forward to improving
on that finish this weekend.
Come out and catch the action this
Saturday. Gates open at 5 p.m. and racing begins at 6
p.m.
See you there!
