Runner-Up Finish Extends Point Lead

The David Elliott Racing Team used the July 9th off weekend to regroup after the second Grisdale Triple Crown Race and to say goodbye to a lost friend.

When the team returned to Flamboro Speedway on July 16th, they were looking to build on their 6 point lead atop the Late Model standings over #82 Jason Shaw.

The #37 Pennzoil Impala was quick in practice, but wasn't handling well through the corners. The team made numerous adjustments before the heat races began.

With starting position based on points, David took the green flag in 7th position. The field fanned out going into turn one allowing David to take advantage and quickly move up into 4th place. He ran in that position to the checkered flag, finishing one position behind Jason Shaw, the second place driver in points.

After a couple more minor adjustments, the car was lined up for the evening's feature race. David started on the outside of row 5 in the 10th position.

Heading into turn one of the first lap, The #37 was in the middle of a chain-reaction incident which resulted in the #8 of Paul House spinning. On the restart, David took the green flag from the 9th position. The inside lane moved forward and David was quickly in 4th position.

Jason Lancaster and Steve Laking were battling hard for the lead when contact along the front straightaway sent Lancaster 's #33 spinning through the infield. Brad Corcoran took advantage of the melee to move alongside Laking. The two ran side-by-side for several laps, with David right behind them, waiting to see which driver would gain the advantage. Laking took advantage of the inside lane and finally reclaimed the lead and David followed him past Corcoran into second.

Although David was quicker, Laking ran a perfect line, lap after lap. David was content to finish second and extend his points lead over Jason Shaw who finished 4th.

David and the team will be back at Flamboro Speedway this Saturday for more exciting racing. Hope to see you there!
