Successful
Day with
Sponsor
Ends
With
Successful
Finish
at
Flamboro
On July
12th,
we had
the #37
Pennzoil
Chevrolet
at
Skyway
Jack’s
in
Streetsville.
David
and the
crew had
a great
time
meeting
the
customers
and
giving
the kids
a chance
to sit
in the
race
car.
Skyway
Jack’s
Restaurant
in
Streetsville
has been
a
sponsor
of the
David
Elliott
Racing
Team for
10 years
and the
crew
always
enjoy
putting
the car
on
display
at the
restaurant
because
of the
great
people
we get
to see
and the
awesome
breakfast
Bill and
his
staff
cook up
for us!
By
mid-afternoon
it was
time for
the team
to pack
up and
head
over to
Flamboro
Speedway
for
round
two of
the
Grisdale
Triple
Crown
Series.
These
50-lap
races
are
always
competitive
and the
team was
confident
after a
dominating
win the
last
time
David
raced,
two
weeks
ago.
The car
was
quick in
practice
and
started
fourth
in the
third
qualifying
heat.
David
quickly
moved
into
second
place
and
radioed
that he
wanted
to stay
in the
runner-up
spot and
hope for
a good
inversion
for the
feature
race.
David’s
finished
qualified
him in
the
sixth
position,
but when
the
first
nine
cars
were
inverted,
the #37
Pennzoil
Chevrolet
ended up
starting
in the
fourth
position
for the
feature
race.
Right
off the
start,
David
began
moving
forward.
He
jumped
into
third
place
with the
#82 of
Jason
Shaw on
his rear
bumper.
Recognizing
that
this was
a long
race and
that his
car
tended
to get
better
the
longer
it ran,
David
gave the
faster
#82 the
outside
lane and
tucked
back
into
line
behind
Shaw.
Early
problems
for
Shane
Gowan
(#10)
and Rob
McDonnell
(#72)
moved
Shaw
into the
lead and
David
into the
second
position.
The #27
of Mark
Burbridge
was
glued to
the
bumper
of the
#37 for
much of
a long
green-flag
run, but
David
began to
open up
about a
car-length
separation
when the
caution
came out
for the
second
time.
The
front
three
kept
their
positions
through
a series
of
cautions
for
minor
incidents.
After
the last
caution,
David
got a
great
restart
and put
some
heavy
pressure
on the
leader,
Shaw. On
the
white
flag
lap,
Shaw got
out of
shape
coming
out of
turn
two, but
David
didn’t
want to
risk
spinning
the
leader,
so he
eased
out of
the
throttle
and
followed
the #82
across
the
finish
line.
The team
considered
this a
very
successful
day…meeting
with
fans at
one of
our
long-time
sponsor’s
locations
and a
second-place
finish
in a
Grisdale
50-lap
race.
The
David
Elliott
Racing
Team
will be
taking
next
weekend
off, but
we’ll be
back at
Flamboro
Speedway
on July
26th
for Gary
Elliott’s
40th
Anniversary
Celebration. |
