Elliott Returns to Flamboro, Records Top-5 Finish
After a year and a half, David Elliott’s #37 late model took to the 1/3 mile Flamboro Speedway for the final race in the Grisdale Triple Crown Series.
The #37 Pennzoil Impala ran times about 2-3 tenths of a second off of the fastest cars during the practice sessions. Having been away from the track for so long, the team were happy with the car’s performance.
During time trials, everyone was surprised when track scoring indicated that David was fastest qualifier. There is a saying about not looking a gift horse in the mouth, so we won’t say anything more about qualifying.

David rolled a 5 on the dice to determine the invert for the 75-lap feature.
Starting on the inside of row 3, David quickly moved up to 4th place after the green flag. Paul Howse was running 5th on newer tires, so David waved him by just before the first caution of the evening flew on lap 32.

With 20 laps to go, another caution flew when leader, Jeff Stewart, had a fire erupt under the hood of his car. David restarted in 5th, behind new leader, Howse, Shane MaGinnis, Jason Shaw, and Shawn Chenoweth.
Shortly after the restart, Shaw had problems and David passed on the inside of turn 1. Coming off turn 2, Shaw suddenly slowed, causing Gary Elliott to climb over the rear of Shaw’s car before slamming head-on into the back stretch wall. Thankfully, Gary wasn’t injured in the wreck.

The final 15 laps saw some great racing with the 2nd through 5th place cars swapping positions every couple of laps. In the end, Howse won the race, Chenoweth’s 3rd place finish won the Triple Crown title and David’s 4th place finish was his best feature finish of the 2010 season so far.
“It was a lot of fun racing at Flamboro again,” said David. “We enjoyed running at Delaware , but lack of sponsorship made us re-examine our schedule for the rest of the season. We’re going to be running a few specials and some weekly races at Flamboro, including Oktoberfest, for the rest of the season.”
Thanks to all of the fans, track officials and competitors who welcomed David and the rest of the team back to Flamboro.
The #37 team will be taking next weekend off, but will be returning to Flamboro Speedway on Saturday, August 21st.
